Like to Cook?  CUMC Needs You!

CUMC has been providing an evening meal for the residents at the singles homeless shelter in Concord on the second Thursday of each month for about 15 years.

Mary Ann and Ed King started the program and Dave Clegg and Wanda Close with help from numerous volunteers are now preparing the meals. Sadly, Dave and Wanda are now retiring.

We'd like to keep the program going and Doug McLeod has volunteered to replace Dave on the second Thursday afternoon of each month from about 2:30 to 5:00 to prepare the hot dish.  We are still looking for someone to help Doug.

The recipe posted in the Oglesby-Close kitchen is easy to follow, and Dave will be happy to train our new chefs. He will also continue to shop for the food, cook the meat for the hot dish on Wednesday, and come help on Thursday morning.  Dave is really only partially retiring.

The menu is the same each month -- a hot entree consisting of chicken, noodles, and chopped vegetables, three bean salad, slaw, cupcakes, rolls.  The salads are made, rolls buttered, and vegetables chopped for the hot dish on Thursday morning, and ladies bring cupcakes from home. Another group delivers and serves the meal at the shelter. All this wonderful work of feeding the hungry is done by volunteers.  Thank you all very much.

If you are interested in cooking and would like to help CUMC continue this community outreach, please call Delores Loague (925-672-6870) or Doug McLeod (925 -825 - 6799).

Church Clean-up is Needed

Please call the church office if you are available to help. Cleaning days would be on Thursday or Friday.

Substitute Nursery Care

Occasionally, due to vacations or unexpected illness, substitute attendants are needed in the nursery during Sunday morning church services.

The nursery staff would like to have a list of 2 or 3 people available on an "on call" basis when the regular attendants are unable to be there.  To qualify for this paid position, ($8.oo per hour) a background check, finger printing, and CPR certification are required.  The cost of these services will be paid for by the church.

If you can help out in this area, please call:
Robin Morgan - 759-5680
Kathleen Conley - 689-5263
Carol Murray - 672-8299
Thank you!

8:00 am Service

Thanks to the 8 O’clock singers for their wonderful music the second Sunday of each month. They are on hiatus until September. Have you thought about singing a solo at the 8:00 am service? Who do you know who isn’t a member but has a wonderful talent to share with our CUMC members? Please let Jan Carpoff (672-5958) or me know. We would love to have the pleasure of listening to you.

Music for the Homeless

This service has had a rather slow start, but it isn’t over yet.    Delores Loague and I will be visiting some of the homeless shelters in central CC County. Would anyone be interested in assisting in having a homeless sing along, say at Newhall Park, Concord?   There is a large number of Concord homeless who may want to do this. Let Delores or me know if this service interests you.
